SignSlip

📱 Connect SMS to SignSlip

Receive and reply to SMS messages directly in your team's unified inbox

1 Create a Twilio Account

SMS integration requires a Twilio account (your own - SignSlip doesn't manage Twilio for you).

  1. Go to twilio.com/try-twilio
  2. Sign up with your email and phone number
  3. Twilio gives you $15 free credit for testing
  4. Complete phone verification (you'll receive an SMS)
✓ New Twilio accounts include $15 free credit - enough to test SMS before paying

2 Get Your Twilio Credentials

You need two pieces of information from Twilio:

  1. Go to console.twilio.com
  2. On the home page, find:
    • Account SID - looks like: ACxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    • Auth Token - looks like: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  3. Copy both (you'll need them in step 4)
⚠️ Keep your Auth Token secret - it's like a password. Don't share it or commit it to git.

3 Get a Twilio Phone Number

This is the phone number customers will text to reach your team.

  1. In Twilio console, go to Phone NumbersManageBuy a Number
  2. Choose your country and phone number
  3. Buy the number (costs ~$1/month after free trial)
  4. Copy the phone number (format: +1234567890)
✓ You now have: Account SID, Auth Token, Phone Number

Tell Twilio where to send incoming SMS messages (to your SignSlip inbox).

  1. Go to Twilio console → Phone NumbersManage
  2. Click on your phone number
  3. Scroll to Messaging section
  4. Find "A message comes in"
  5. Set it to Webhook and paste:
    https://yoursite.com/api/webhooks/twilio/sms
(Replace yoursite.com with your SignSlip domain)
  6. Click Save

6 Test It

Send a test SMS to verify everything works.

  1. From your personal phone, text your Twilio number
  2. Go to SignSlip dashboard and refresh
  3. You should see your SMS in the team inbox
  4. Team members with Agent+ role can reply

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Does SignSlip manage my Twilio account?

No. You own and manage your Twilio account. SignSlip just receives the SMS messages and stores them in your team's inbox. You control billing, phone number, and credentials.

How much does SMS cost?

Twilio charges ~$0.0075 per incoming SMS and ~$0.0075 per outgoing SMS in the US (varies by country). You pay Twilio directly, not SignSlip. New accounts get $15 free credit.

Can I use my existing Twilio account?

Yes! If you already have a Twilio account with a phone number, just provide those credentials in step 4.

What if I have multiple teams?

Each team has its own SMS channel with its own Twilio credentials. You can use the same Twilio account for all teams, or different accounts - it's up to you.

How do team members reply to SMS?

Team members with Agent or Admin role can reply to customers directly from the SignSlip inbox. The SMS is sent through your Twilio account.

Is my Twilio credentials safe?

Yes. Credentials are encrypted in the SignSlip database. Only team admins can see them, and they're never logged or exposed.

Can I disconnect SMS later?

Yes. Just delete the SMS channel from SignSlip. Your Twilio account continues running independently.

What if Twilio blocks my number?

Contact Twilio support directly. SignSlip just forwards messages - any issues with your Twilio account need to be resolved with Twilio.
